Omar Granados, Associate Professor of Spanish at UW- La Crosse is this week’s #CLACSCommunity member. Dr. Granados is a researcher and instructor in Latin American and Caribbean studies, U.S Latino studies, and Cuban and Cuban American studies.
He is particularly interested in the remembrance and representation of the trauma of cultural and geographic displacement amongst migrant communities. Currently, his work focuses on the history of Cubans in Wisconsin and the militarization of immigration detention in the U.S. He was drawn to research this topic due to a desire to educate second-generation migrant communities about their past and dismantle stereotypes.
“In many ways, our faculty are the first encounter that many Wisconsin students have had with Latin America or the Caribbean. It's a privilege and a responsibility.”
